Showing what a classless act he is, Sen. Barack Obama took a shot at the ailing 87-year-old former First Lady Nancy Reagan by telling the Sun-Times Lynn Sweet that he wasn't going to get into "the Nancy Reagan seance thing" when answering a question about consulting all three living former presidents, Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. His memory is not good as usual. Yes, Mrs. Reagan, who was just recently admitted to the hospital after suffering a broken pelvis from a fall in her home, admitted to consulting a well-known astrologer after the assassination attempt on her husband's life a little more than 60 days into his presidency. It was actually former First Lady Hillary Clinton who reportedly held seances at the White House in an attempt to communicate with former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. And another former First Lady from Illinois, Mary Todd Lincoln, also reportedly conducted seances at the White House.
UPDATE: To you Obama fans, my thoughts are vindicated by none other than your own guy. “President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan today to apologize for the careless and off handed remark he made during today’s press conference," said transition spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter. "The President-elect expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share and they had a warm conversation."

I don't think it was intended as a shot. If you managed to pry yourself away to watch the news conference, you would have noted he was explaining why he said he had consulted all "living Presidents" because the press chuckled when he said it. But, if you must live my hate...I suppose your story sounds better.
Hillary's actions don't count.

Of course the media laughed. They hate the Reagans. You can bet if the tables were turned, a Republican would be forced to make a public apology within the hour. Different set of standards for Barry. None of the rules apply to him. Whatever he says is okay. Anyone who criticizes him is just a hateful bigot.
Yep, Barack "Tyrant" Obama made a mistake with that one, no doubt. And he is absolutely classless, especially concerning the Reagans. Just listen to what he said about President Reagan on January 14, 2008: "I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not. He put us on a fundamentally different path because the country was ready for it. I think they felt like with all the excesses of the 1960s and 1970s and government had grown and grown but there wasn't much sense of accountability in terms of how it was operating. I think people, he just tapped into what people were already feeling, which was we want clarity we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had been missing."
Hee hee. Terrible. How could he?
Barack is the guy who denounced the welfare to work plan first touted by Reagan and signed into law by Clinton. He bashed Clinton at the time for his actions. Barack admired Reagan's good looks, charisma and oratorical skills, but it ends there. He doesn't embrace anything close to Reagan's ideology and view of the role of government.
But you agree it was a nice thing to say about Ronald Reagan?
It is something that has been said by many of his political opponents who admired Reagan's ability to eloquently communicate a set of ideas and attract public support for his views. I think he sincerely envied what Reagan had. In Reagan's case, you knew what he stood for and what he would pursue. I don't think most of the people who support Obama have any idea what he will pursue as president. I know I certainly don't.
He apologized, in case anybody was wondering. Would he have done it without all the blogoshpere hoo-hah? Don't know. But, I think he could have gotten away scot-free without apologizing...so I'll give him his kudos here. He did the right thing.
